July and August in Kenya? Perfect weather for research and fieldwork! While others take a break, we dive into discovery.
This summer, teams from the University of Silesia in Katowice and the University of Szczecin joined forces with Pwani University in Kilifi for collaborative research and training. At the same time, another group of researchers from the University of Szczecin, together with Palacký University in Olomouc, carried out intensive work at the Polish University Abroad in London, where summer 2025 brought little rain, and pleasantly mild conditions – not too hot, just right for productive work. Towards the end of August, additional researchers from the University of Silesia in Katowice joined the initiative, strengthening this international team.
Science doesn’t take holidays – and it connects across all climates, from Africa to London.
During the stay in Kilifi the meetings focused on planning visits to Kenyan and European schools, defining procedures for establishing initial relationships with school management, and streamlining the research process. These discussions marked an important step toward implementing the next phase of the project. As part of the stay, the team also held a follow-up meeting with the director of a local kindergarten.
During the stay in London, the scientific symposium titled “Sharenting and Online Child Safety – Ethical, Legal, and Cultural Perspectives” in a hybrid format, welcoming participants both onsite and online. Dr. Anna Brosch delivered a keynote presentation “Sharenting as a Research Subject of the GUARDIAN Project,” offering fresh insights into how parents share children’s images and personal data online. Dr. Anna Watoła, Sabina Surma, and Karolina Wolska, presented their research on “Sharenting in the Light of Polish Legal Acts”, addressing regulatory challenges and the need to align research with legislation to protect children in digital environments. The symposium provided an invaluable platform for exchanging knowledge and fostering international collaboration on online child safety.
